New 'iPhone killer' 4G mobile phone is unveiled in the U.S.

25th March 2010 - The first ever 4G mobile phone billed as a major rival for the iPhone and Google Nexus One has been unveiled at a trade show in the U.S.

The HTC Evo 4G features a 4.3-inch LCD screen, 30 per cent bigger than the iPhone, an eight megapixel camera with flash and up to 33 gigabytes of memory.

One of the new phones features means it can act as an internet 'hub' for up to eight devices at the same time.

Rival: The HTC Evo 4G, produced by Sprint Nextel, is the first 4G phone and is expected to be strong competition for the iPhone and Google Nexus

No release date has been set, but the phone is expected to hit the U.S. market over the summer.

It has been designed by Sprint Nextel, the same company behind the Google Nexus One, and is its first 4G phone but the firm has not given it a guide price.

The Evo 4G uses Android 2.1 software and features a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. It supports 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and also contains a front-facing 1.3 mega pixel video camera capable of HD video recording.

The download speed of a 4G phone is far superior to the current leading models.

It is unlikely to be sold in the UK in its current form, but could be released in Europe after further testing is carried out on download speeds and system performance.

The news comes as rival Apple announced it will include iPhones with bigger and brighter screens for services like mobile video.

Jeff Bradley, senior vice president overseeing devices at the company, said: 'We'll have those kind of devices with those kinds of capabilities in the portfolio.

'There's a definite trend towards big, vivid displays.'

On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics also launched its new phone called Galaxy S which also features brighter display technology.

The announcements, which took place at the CTIA trade show in Las Vegas, U.S., are likely to increase the intense competition for touch-screen mobile phone technology.

AT&T, which exclusively provides the iPhone in the U.S., said some customers would also be able to watch TV shows on their phones by streaming them from their digital video recorders at home. - http://www.dailymail.co.uk

New paper battery may change the energy landscape

Ordinary paper could one day be used as ultra-lightweight, bendable batteries, according to scientists from Stanford University.

Simply coating a sheet of paper with ink made of silver and carbon nanomaterials makes an efficient storage device that is 10 times as powerful as lithium-ion batteries used to power laptops.

paper battery
The light-weight battery is created by painting nanotube ink onto paper

Paper is a porous material that helps carbon nanotubes and silver nanowire films stick to it, much like ink does.

After it is coated and heated heated the paper becomes super-conductive and works as a battery even if the material is crumpled.

'Taking advantage of the mature paper technology, low cost, light and high-performance energy-storage are realized by using conductive paper as current collectors and electrodes,' the scientists said in research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

This type of battery could be especially useful for applications like electric or hybrid cars, which depend on the quick transfer of electricity.

Battery weight and life have been an obstacle to commercial viability of electric-powered cars and trucks.

'Society really needs a low-cost, high-performance energy storage device, such as batteries and simple supercapacitors,' Stanford assistant professor Yi Cui said.

'Our paper supercapacitors can be used for all kinds of applications that require instant high power.

'Since our paper batteries and supercapacitors can be very low cost, they are also good for grid-connected energy storage.'

Peidong Yang, professor of chemistry at the University of California-Berkeley, said the technology could be commercialized within a short time.- www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech

Nikon's new camera: point, shoot... and project?

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj

by Bobbie Johnson, technology correspondent
Wednesday 5 August 2009

Cameras in your phones; phones in your iPods; iPods with Wi-Fi; Wi-Fi in your cameras. This, ladies and gentlemen, is called convergence.

Sticking the features of one gizmo inside another seems to be the continuing trend in modern life, as we veer speedily towards a world where we all tote around one single, enormous gadget that handles all our entertainment, communication and probably even teleportation. Except, it seems, that even this is not enough convergence for the Japanese camera giant Nikon.

To whit: the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, which boasts among its coterie of assets a 12 megapixel sensor for still images, the ability to capture standard def video, and a built-in projector.

Yes; instead of showing your granny those family photos on a tiny LCD screen, you will be able to throw your snaps onto a nearby wall using the patented pico-projector. Handy, perhaps, but I can't but feel it's a step too far along convergence road. What's next? Washing machines with built-in iPod docks ?

PDA and Smart Phone: What is the difference ?

Many people may wonder, what indeed the difference between Personal Digital Asistant (PDA) with mobile phone or smart phone? Indeed, perhaps, the differences lie only in the history when they both appear. Later, the gadget complete itself with the ability to send e-mail, music, camera, video, GPS, to run the program office.

PDA and Smart PhonePDA phone started from creation of a gadget with the main function of the work as the assistant to keep notes and run office applications (office). Then, the PDA equipped its functions with telecommunications.

Smartphones are relatively simple rather PDA phone,” said Iqbal Willis, a gadgets observer.

Other difference lies in the performance. Appear since the beginning, with the presence of sticky PDA touch screen or touch screen. While the smartphone does not generally rely on touch screen but the existence of sticky Qwerty keyboard.

But now, good smartphone and PDA phone market shoot the same market. Both using the same weapons. For example: a camera, music, GPS and so on. Lalu, apa pertimbangan untuk memilihnya? Then what the consideration we need to select?

Here are some tips you need to know:
First, identify your needs first. Does your need to have a device that smart and expensive is urgent enough?

Some smartphone or PDA phone may offers the ability to play music or camera but if you do not need the office, it is better to buy a multimedia mobile phone.

Take a note at the operating system, either the Symbian, Linux or Windows Mobile. Then see the external memory. If internal memory is big enough you may not need the external. But if internal memory small in capacity, it’s good that you can select the phone with external memory.

Third, the ability of the data connection, be it GPRS, HSDPA or WiFi. Also check does it have channel connection, bluetooth, USB, or infrared. No less important feature of completeness, from the standard function for messaging, phone, e-mail, and especially for the office.

Fourth, body. Clear wide screen and plus body slim and lightweight is more curvaceous rather than absorbed.

Fifth, of course, Find the price which is commensurate with the feature, plus match with our budget.

Revolusi teknologi Windows Mobile 6.1

Paparan aplikasi The Most Recently Used bagaimanapun boleh dimatikan daripada tetapan panel pada home screen.
