Starting February 1st of 2009, Microsoft will no longer sell Windows XP

As the limelight dawns upon the likes of Windows 7 beta release, much has been forgotten about the trusty old Windows XP. Starting February 1st of 2009, Microsoft will no longer sell Windows XP to its distributors. In short, users who wishes to use Windows XP need to buy the software when it is still available from the shelf.

Existing customers using Windows XP will still be supported with security updates until April 2014. Beyond the stated timeline will see many windows users making a switch to the much hyped Windows 7 platform and skip Windows Vista altogether. Talk about increased security feature and better end user experience in Vista OS huh? Anyway, let us end this article of the closure of Windows XP with the statement: Windows XP is dead !

Getting Started Center yang baru akan memberi panduan kepada pengguna tentang cara-cara melaksanakan tugasan-tugasan utama dalam tempoh 10 hari pertama telefon itu digunakan. Tugasan-tugasan yang dimaksudkan itu ialah menetapkan tarikh dan masa, e-mel peribadi dan kerja, kata laluan keselamatan, set kepada bluetooth, nada dering dan keupayaan memindahkan muzik dari komputer peribadi.

Salah satu perubahan terawal yang pengguna boleh lihat ketika menggunakan Windows Mobile 6.1 termasuklah muka home screen yang baru. Platform itu mempermudahkan kaedah perolehan maklumat pengguna.

Home screen dengan Panel Gelongsor plug-in menawarkan maklumat masa dan notifikasi (mel suara, panggilan tidak berjawab dan mesej-mesej teks) secara pantas, e-mel, temu janji, muzik serta pilihan Windows Live untuk Windows Mobile.

Tambahan pula, dengan sekali tekan pada butang menu Start, pengguna dapat melihat aturan semula yang kini memaparkan program dan aplikasi yang baru digunakan pada kedudukan teratas. Ini memudahkan akses yang lebih pantas.

Paparan aplikasi The Most Recently Used bagaimanapun boleh dimatikan daripada tetapan panel pada home screen.

Selain itu, penambahbaikan fungsi menghantar mesej pula membolehkan pengguna membaca beberapa khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) dalam satu paparan. Setiap SMS turut menunjukkan maklumat secara terperinci bagi memudahkan pengguna membalas segera baik menerusi teks, telefon mahupun e-mel.

Dalam aspek Messaging, pengguna kini berupaya memilih pelbagai e-mel atau khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) daripada paparan List dan melaksanakan pelbagai tindakan seperti memadam, memindah serta membuat tanda (baca atau belum dibaca). Dalam paparan Contacts pula pengguna dibenarkan memilih atau memilih semua untuk memadamkan pelbagai kenalan pada satu-satu masa.

Dari aspek produktiviti pula, platform Windows Mobile terbaru ini turut memiliki ciri Cut, Copy and Paste. Ciri-ciri ini boleh didapati sewaktu menulis e-mel dalam Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile, menghantar SMS mahupun menguruskan bahagian yang boleh diedit dalam Internet Explorer Mobile.

Aplikasi Task Manager yang ditambah dalam platform itu membantu pengguna menguruskan memori telefon bimbit dan jangka hayat bateri secara lebih berkesan. Pengguna dibenarkan mematikan dan menukar aplikasi dan program, selain mampu melihat prestasi data berkaitan penggunaan CPU dan memori secara am.

Ciri-ciri ini amat dinanti-nantikan kerana ia membantu mengurangkan kos sokongan operator telefon bimbit memandangkan gajet itu menjadi lebih mudah untuk mengalami troubleshoot.

Ballmer Announces Windows 7 Public Beta, Live Essentials

LAS VEGAS – Microsoft on Wednesday released the beta version of Windows 7 to developers, and will make it publicly available on Friday, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said during a keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show.

"I encourage you all to get out and download it," Ballmer said.

The software giant also highlighted two additions to its Halo gaming lineup, including a strategy game that will be available next month.

Meanwhile, Ballmer announced the worldwide availability of Windows Live Essentials, a partnership with Facebook that will link Facebook activity with Windows Live, and a deal with Dell to pre-install Windows Live on all consumer and small business PCs.

"We're on track to deliver the best version of Windows ever," Ballmer said of Windows 7. "We're putting in all the rich ingredients – simplicity and speed – and working hard to get it right and get it ready."

Ballmer touted the new operating system's faster boot speed, longer battery life, enhanced entertainment experience, and ability to help connect users with a variety of devices and platforms.

Convergence between platforms – in particular the PC, phone, and PC – was a main theme of Ballmer's speech. "Today, much of the stuff we all care about sits in silos" across various platforms, but "increasingly, those barriers are going away and the Internet cloud is connecting all of your devices together seamlessly."

"I believe Windows will remain at the center of peoples' technological solar system," Ballmer said. "It will work across all three screens seamlessly, accept natural import and tie all your info together through the cloud."

That cloud will naturally include Windows Live Essentials, the desktop application side of Windows Live, he said.

Microsoft released a final "refresh" of the Windows Live Essentials beta in mid-December, and that is now available worldwide, including messenger, e-mail, and photo gallery.

"It's final, it's free, and it works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and the new Windows 7 beta," Ballmer said.
